Brunch Behavior: The Pour Report
You Can’t Out Discipline An Algorithm Raising Your Child
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
They’ll hand your kid a phone before they hand them wisdom.
That’s the conversation today. And yeah… we had to talk about it.
Guest host Ringold from the We Need to Talk podcast steps in for Episode Legacy Over Likes—a real one about parenting in the age of algorithms, short attention spans, and everybody online acting like they got all the answers.
We break down what it means to raise children when likes feel louder than lessons, when comparison starts young, and when some parents are providing everything except presence. This episode gets honest about fatherhood, leadership, emotional connection, and why being there matters more than being perfect.
We also talk about the uncomfortable truth: some people are building a lifestyle for the internet while their kids are quietly asking for eye contact.
Styles brings the featured drink The Foundation Fix, because legacy—like a proper pour—needs balance, patience, and intention.
If you’re a parent, planning to become one, healing from what you didn’t get, or trying to lead your family better than what you came from… this episode is for you.
Because legacy doesn’t begin when you leave something behind.
It begins while they’re watching.
Episode 71 available now on all streaming platforms.

No Manual For Modern Parenting
StylesAyo, you ever sit back and realize nobody really taught us how to raise a kid in a world like this? Like, we have instructions for survival and we have instructions on respect. We also have, you know, or have received warnings about the streets. But nobody handed us a manual for raising a child in a world where attention is currency. Where validation comes with a comment section and where your kid can go viral before they even understand who they are. And that's the part that'll humble you real quick. Because now it's not about just keeping them safe outside, it's about keeping them grounded inside. Inside their mind, inside their confidence, and also inside their identity. And that's different. Because now you're competing with algorithms and influences with opinions from people who don't even know your child's middle name. And somehow, right? Somehow, you're still expected to build a legacy in the middle of all that noise. You can't out discipline a world that's raising your kid louder than you are. So now the question becomes how do you raise your child to know who they are when the world keeps trying to tell them who they should be? Alright, I said enough out here. Let's go inside and talk about it.
Legacy Over Lights And Fatherhood
SPEAKER_01Welcome to Brunch Behavior, the Poor Report. And my name is Ringold. And today's pour, Legacy over Lights. Because raising kids today feels like building a foundation in the middle of a highlight rail. Let me break this one down for you. The SIP sermon. Let's be real. Being a father today, that's a different type of responsibility. Because we're not just raising kids anymore, we're raising decision makers. And every day, they're watching. Not just what you say, but how you move, how you react, how you recover. And the problem is, the world moves faster than your lessons. You're teaching patience, they're watching instant gratification. You're teaching self-worth, they're watching comparison culture. You're telling them they're enough. And then they open an app that tells them that they're not. That's the tension. Because legacy used to be about what you leave behind. Now it's about what you're fighting to protect in real time.
Presence Builds Confidence And Identity
StylesSide note Some of us building generational wealth, but forgot to build generational confidence. And that's where it gets tricky.
SPEAKER_01Because discipline alone doesn't build legacy. Money alone doesn't build legacy. Presence does. Conversations do. Correction with love does. And let's not act like it's easy. Because sometimes you're tired. Sometimes you're figuring it out as you go. And sometimes you're healing while you're raising. And that's the part that nobody applauds. That's the part that matters most. Because your kids don't need a perfect parent, they need a present one.
Foundation Fix Cocktail And Consistency
StylesLet me break this down in the glass for you. Today's featured drink is called Foundation Fix. Here's what's going in the glass tequila, fresh lime juice, agave, and a splash of bitters. Now here's the thing. This isn't a drink that you rush. This is one you actually sit with. Because every ingredient has a role, just like every lesson you pass down. Too much of anything, you know, throws off the balance. Not enough intention, it don't hit the way it's supposed to. And that's just how legacy works too. You just can't pour into your kids when it's convenient. You gotta be consistent with it. Because building something at last that takes patience and a steady hand. Before we go any further, this part right here, it might hit different because we're talking about parenting, we're talking about presence, we're talking about legacy. And not everybody had that growing up. So if it feels a little personal, if it hit somewhere deeper than the brunch conversation, that's not by accident. That's reflection. And if you're still learning, still growing, still figuring it out, you're not behind. You're in it.
Real Life Signs We Are Missing It
SPEAKER_01Brunch behavior breakdown. Let's talk about it. What this actually looks like in real life. Because this isn't just theory, this is everyday brunch table conversation. You got parents sitting at brunch scrolling, while the kid is right there trying to get their attention, but the phone wins every time. You got kids who know how to pose for a picture but don't know how to introduce themselves with confidence. You got household where everything is provided materially, but not emotionally. It's quiet. And then you get comparison trap. Kids thinking their life is lacking because somebody else's highlight reel looks better.
StylesSide note. So what's the adjustment?
Practical Adjustments For Intentional Parenting
SPEAKER_01It's simple, but it's not easy. You gotta be intentional. Put the phone down and actually listen. Have real conversations, even the uncomfortable ones. Teach them identity before the world assigns them one. And most importantly, let them see you as a human being, not just a provider. Because that's where correction lives. The vinyl
Takeaway Legacy Is Built Daily
SPEAKER_01pour. So what's the takeaway? Legacy isn't what you leave behind. It's what you build every single day in your conversations, in your presence, in your consistencies. Your kids don't need perfection. They need direction. They need identity. They need you. Because at the end of the day, the world is going to try to define them. Your job? Make sure they already know who they are before that happens. Sip happens. Every sip tells a story. That's your poor for today.
