This episode dives into the real millennial midlife transition—the wellness, the money, the identity changes, and the emotional upgrades nobody warned us about. We sit down with Cherry, the Midlife Maven, to talk midlife glow-ups, financial stability, emotional healing, self-care habits, relationship boundaries, and reinventing yourself at 40 without fear.

Midlife isn’t a crisis anymore—it’s a reset. Cherry breaks down what modern adulthood looks like for millennials balancing career burnout, therapy, budgeting, mental health, confidence, healthy relationships, and personal growth in a world that’s always evolving. If you’re navigating a midlife awakening, this is the clarity you’ve been craving.

Our featured drink, the Recharge Royale, ties it all together:

Champagne for celebrating longevity, cognac for depth, lemon for mental clarity, elderflower for softness. Each ingredient mirrors a midlife wellness practice—from emotional regulation and mindful spending to recovery, routines, and choosing peace on purpose.

Inside this episode, we unpack:

  • Millennial money habits & financial maturity
  • Midlife self-care and wellness routines
  • Emotional boundaries and relationship clarity
  • Healing from people-pleasing & burnout
  • Rediscovering identity at 40
  • Mental health, therapy, and self-awareness
  • Choosing alignment over anxiety

Styles:

Today's poor hits a little different. We're talking about that moment after 40, where life, love, and lessons start tasting a little stronger. And who better to guide us through it than Cherry? The midlife maven herself. She's got the wisdom, the wit, and just enough side eye to keep it real. Real shit. Let's get into it. Here's Cherry with the poor report.

Yoshmin:

Hey y'all. Welcome to Brunch Behavior, The Poor Report. I'm your girl Cherry from the Midlife Maven blog and podcast. Yes, that's my new joint. And today's pour, think of it like bottomless mimosas at 40. You realize the glass isn't half empty or half full. It's just being refilled with the purpose. So let me break it down for you. The sip sermon. So here's what nobody tells you. Hitting 40 isn't the finish line. It's the remix. Financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, everything just shifts. For some, it feels like the menu just changed and nobody gave you the brunch specials. For others, it's the first time you stop ordering appetizers and start treating yourself to the full entree.

Styles:

Side note, translation. Stop playing small. At 40, the only sampling you need is a Costco. Order what you want in life.

Yoshmin:

You're absolutely right, Styles. Because this is the season where you stop shrinking yourself and finally step into the entree version. Being a 40-year-old millennial comes with layers. We grew up on dial-up internet and $5 mixtapes. Now we're mastering streaming, TikTok dances, and retirement plans all at the same time. It's a weird kind of flex. Wisdom with Wi-Fi. Here's the brunch behavior breakdown. At brunch, the parallels are everywhere. Financially, you got friends that's ordering, like their credit card number isn't visible. Then you got the ones that's pulling out coupons and groupons, like it's still 2002. That's the post-40 vibe. Some are stacking, some are scrambling, but we all just trying to make it. Physically, the 20s was tequila shots, penny shots, straight, no chaser. Now it's turmeric shots. You're realizing that recovery time is not 24 hours anymore. It's a whole weekend and sometimes the beginning of the week. Emotionally, conversations at the table shift. It's less about who dating who, what's the hottest topic, and more about who's in therapy and who's thriving. Those conversations matter and they're also needed. Spiritually, one friend is light and sage after brunch, and another is light and hookah. That's balance.

Styles:

Okay, Cherry, let me break this down in the class of the people. It's called Recharge Royale from the Brunch Behavior Summer Pack. Here's the sermon in the sip: champagne. Because you've earned the right to celebrate your survival. A splash of cognac, that's the depth, the wisdom only ears can give. Fresh lemon juice, that's the zing. The reminder that life still has a bite. An elder water liqueur. Fix your faces. Go find the ingredients. That's the softness. The grace you learn to extend to yourself. It's bougie, it's bold, and it proves that hitting balls doesn't mean you stop. Cherry, I know you feel that.

Yoshmin:

I definitely feel you on that one. Because life after 40 is just like that drink. It's a mixture of boldness, sweetness, and a little zing that makes it worth savoring. But the point that we're trying to make here is that brunch exposes the same lessons Life After 40 does. Who are we? What do we value? And are we still out here pretending to like things that don't actually fill up our cup? We can't continue to pour into others and not pour into ourselves. At this stage of the game, we gotta give it how it is. Say it like it is and mean it. So here's my truth, y'all. 40 is not a crisis that most people think. It's a calling. In this milestone, we are honoring the receipts of our past, but we're staying open to ordering something new off the menu. Protect your poor, savor your growth, and stop apologizing for sitting at tables like you don't belong. Because face it, you do. Pull up a seat and get comfortable. Make sure you follow me at the Midlife Maven and join the conversation. We're talking all things life after 40, the highs, the lows, the in-between, and all of the above. That's the Maven's Poor from Cherry at the Midlife Maven blog and podcast. Bye y'all.

Styles:

Big shout out to Cherry for dropping that wisdom. The Midlife Maven ain't just talking, she's living it. And listen, if you're running on empty, do what she does. Refill with intention. No excuses. And that's where the brunch behavior comes in. Grab the free pour. Five drinks, five sermons, and a moment to breathe. And when you're ready to toast the balance and boundaries, I finally got through that. And when you're ready to toast the balance and boundaries, hit the brunch behavior summer back. Links in the description. Just another reminder that midlife ain't a breakdown. It's a breakthrough. Catch you on the next poll.
